2015 SCRRF Fall Classic 2-day event report
I filed a report last year about all the problems I had. I figured I should follow up this year regarding the updated
FMS.
OffSeason Event: 2015 SCRRF Fall Classic
Field Supervisor: Terry Wells
FTA: Oliver Graff
FMS: OffSeason v: 2.30.20921.1
Field hardware:
- FMS Laptop: Core-i3, Windows 10
- Router: Linksys e3000
The new FMS worked great. There were only a couple minor issues, some of which are known. Oliver was a great help to
keep things running smoothly.
We ran the Fall Classic as 2, separate 1-day events. Saturday had 26 teams and Sunday had 13.
I used the OffSeason FMS documentation to the letter and didn't have any problems getting the field up and running with
multiple field monitors and pit displays.
Two tweaks:
- The 2.4GHz WiFi was enabled on the field router to enable the remote field monitors
- The 5GHz WiFi was widened to 40MHz channels to reduce the possibility of a Christmas tree.
The event ran very smoothly both days. FMS never crashed or had to be restarted due to problems. We used the scoring
tab to track realtime scores, which were validated by ref score sheets after each match.
Issues:
1) The radio kiosk tool has a bug for OffSeason mode. If you provide an SSID, but leave the WPA key blank, then it
programs the radio mostly right, but sets the SSID to the team number instead of the field SSID. We discovered this bug
in testing, but it didn't affect us during the event as we used a WPA key.
2) Twice on Saturday, the FMS threw up an exception dialog when we clicked on Prestart. Oliver said it looked like some
services may need to be restarted, but when I cleared the pop-up and tried Prestart again, it worked fine. So no idea
what happened there, but it was just a spurious message.
3) Known issue: Re-prestarting sometimes causes previously connected driver stations to need attention. Oliver usually
cleared these up.
Thanks again for the great job on this year's FMS. I'm looking forward to next season's game.
Terry Wells
