FMS Lite 2015
Is there a timeline for the release of FMS Lite 2015?
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Hi Austin,

We are currently working on necessary FMS software updates to support the offseason events which use the full set of
field electronics. Once those are complete, we'll be working on the 2015 release of Offseason FMS.

I should have more details on the timeline within the next week or so.

Regards,
-Matt
Re: FMS Lite 2015
We've completed work on the updated FMS that supports OffSeason events with full electronics, and anticipate having an
FMS Off-Season (we no longer call it "Lite") within a few weeks. We will post an announcement here as well as on the
usfirst.org website when it is available.
Thanks
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Was the FMS Off-Season ever released?
Re: FMS Lite 2015
I'm running an offseason event next week. Will the 2015 version be released in time for me to use it?

Thanks,
Terry
Re: FMS Lite 2015
HI all,

FMS Offseason for 2015 is progressing well. We completed the majority of our testing over the past several weeks and the
software is very close to being ready for release. We've identified one last issue which needs to be fixed and hope
that we'll be ready for release around the middle of next week (23 Sept).

Re: FMS Lite 2015
Awesome. Cutting it a bit close for my event on the 26th, but I'm glad to have it.

Thanks for the hard work.

Terry
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Quick question:
- Can I install the 2015 version over the top of the 2014 version? If not, how much cleanup do I need to do before I
can reuse a 2014 system for 2015?

Thanks,
Terry
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Hi Terry,
I don't recommend doing that as it doesn't provide any benefit. We don't test that scenario at HQ, so I would recommend
just uninstalling any old FIRST software from previous seasons before installing the new version. Included with the
installer will be the new documentation, which outlines the minimum specs for the host machine as well- such as RAM and
HDD space.
Thanks,
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Hi Alex,

One of the problems I had with the 2014 FMS was that database corruption would permanently poison a system. I couldn't
figure out how to reset/delete the database since uninstall/reinstall didn't clean up everything.

I'm assuming you fixed most/all of the dB corruption bugs, but short of picking a new machine or rebuilding the entire
laptop, is there a documented procedure for completely resetting a corrupted dB back to the fresh install state?

Likewise, the procedure for restoring a dB from backup would be appreciated. I know FMS makes backups, I just never
learned how to restore to one of them.

Thanks,
Terry
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Hi Terry,

I'm not sure I'm aware of the problem you're referring to. We haven't received any reports of database issues like you
reference in the 2014 or 2015 releases, but if you encounter anything next week at your event, please be sure to post a
bug under the "trackers" section and we can investigate.

The database we're using is a Microsoft Windows product, not an FMS specific product, so my guess would be that the
machine you're using either has corporate restrictions or a corrupt install of the Microsoft product. I would recommend
trying a different machine if you haven't already, and making sure to uninstall all versions of our previous software as
well as previous versions of Microsoft SQL before you install our new version.

The 2015 FMS was almost completely re-written from 2014 though, so its entirely possible that any issues you experienced
 no longer exist.
Re: FMS Lite 2015
The specific problem I'm referring to was the one where you entered team names manually (instead of populating from
online) and didn't fill in all the fields. When you tried to enter the second or third team, you'd get an error that
the team number was already entered, or something like that. From that point onward, that system was useless.
Uninstalling and reinstalling FMS didn't clear up the problem. It also wasn't clear exactly what MS packages needed to
be uninstalled to get rid of everything the installer put in there, nor was it apparent how to reset/delete the database
.

I appreciate that the 2015 version is a rewrite. I'm hopeful that we've exchanged all the crusty old bugs for
completely new and exciting ones.

That said, I have another request:
- Please make sure that the uninstaller returns the system to the state it was in before install. If there are other
3rd party (MS) packages that get installed as well, either offer to uninstall them too, or at least provide a list
identifying them so they can be manually uninstalled.

Thanks,
Terry
Re: FMS Lite 2015
About the system specs: have you done any testing on Windows 10? The set of laptops I can pull from have all gone to 10
. I'll need a little extra head's up if I have to locate an 8.1 machine.

Thanks,
Terry
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Hi Terry,

We have not performed any testing with Windows 10. Our testing was completed with Windows 7 and 8.1. Although it's
entirely possible (and I would anticipate) that it would work correctly on Windows 10.

Thanks,
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Great. I do hope so as well.

If you need any Win10 beta testers ahead of the official release next week, I'd be happy to help.

Re: FMS Lite 2015
One more question (sorry for the multiple posts, seems I can't edit prior posts).

Is there a radio programming tool that works with the 2015 FMS Offseason? My setup includes a laptop and Linksys e3000
router. We had to run static IPs and all manual setup again for the pre-bag scrimmage this year. This is the hardest
part of getting the event off the ground in the morning. I'm hoping that we can have some sort of automation to
expedite the process for the new FMS.

Lacking automation, I would appreciate a one-sheet procedure that I can provide to my crew for getting the radios
programmed correctly.

Thanks,
Terry
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Hi Terry,

The "Team" version of the FRC Bridge Configuration Utility can be set up to do what you want.

I have put together a quick document here showing how it works: http://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/4485/m/24193/l/

Re: FMS Lite 2015
Will the 2015 version support non-static IPs for the driver station computer?
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Hi Joe,

Yes. Our testing was done using DHCP assigned addresses for the DS and roboRIO.

The documentation included with the installer details the recommended router settings.
Re: FMS Lite 2015
2015 FMS Offseason has been posted. The installer is available in File Releases.
Re: FMS Lite 2015
Awesome. Thanks!

I've downloaded it and will give it a try tonight.
