Audience Display via Network
Hi,
I'm testing FMS Lite for a competition this summer, but I've run into a bit of trouble with it. Namely, I can't get the
audience display to connect to FMS via the network. There doesn't appear to be any documentation on this.

When I input the IP of the FMS machine on the audience display and press connect, nothing happens. If I save the
settings, the IP configuration is lost. It doesn't appear to be a firewall issue; I get the feeling there's supposed to
be a server running on FMS that is not.

I also had a bit of trouble getting the pit display to operate. I wound up having to run the IIS command as an
administrator (which makes sense) and I had to install MySQL's Connector/Net to keep ASP errors from occurring. It would
be nice if things like this were documented.

I would appreciate it if I could be at least pointed in the right direction! Thanks.
Re: Audience Display via Network
Hi Brandon,
The FMS Off-Season current release (2015) does not support Audience Displays on the network- please
see the paragraph under Figure 10 of the User Guide where this is documented. We recommend you connect
a TV or projector to the FMS machine if you wish to show the display to a larger group.

The field you're seeing for an IP is left-over- it's something we working on for the future.

Please carefully follow the instructions in section 2- specifically about "running as administrator". You need to set
FMS and it's server to run as an admin.

You don't need to install any additional software, the FMS installer has everything you need pre-packaged. If
your machine has special configurations you need to maintain, you could also install FMS on a "clean" machine
with known configuration. But the reason there is no documentation about additional software installs is that
they aren't required.

Enjoy~

Oh, I missed that, sorry!

I was hoping to study the audience display in order to create a custom audience display too hook into on-season FMS at
our event in a few months. We stream the event online but our video equipment is rather limited so my intent was to have
my own real-time HD overlay on the stream rather than using a low-quality scan converter output from the FMS box.

Would you happen to have any guidance on this topic? I'm guessing it's not exactly supported but I don't have access to
the full FMS in order to analyze the network traffic myself. Any information that you'd be able to provide me would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Re: Audience Display via Network
Hi Brandon,
FMS and the Audience Display are a bundled infrastructure- they aren't build to be "hooked into" or to
make data available outside of it's environment. The 2015 version offers two output options, depending
on the server you are using (official fields) or machine output capabilities (personal computers). Currently,
1024x768 and 1280x1024 are available. In 2016, an additional option of 1920x1280 will be available. I can't \
speak to the exact system you're referring to, since I don't know which truck or area you are in, but many
of our systems are tailored to the output types of the specific regions request. If you want additional
information regarding a specific system or output, please email us directly.

The "sandbox" which we offer to developers to test and implement their own ideas is our public API, which
you can read about here:
https://usfirst.collab.net/sf/projects/first_community_developers/
This data will be available at all 2016 events, as long as internet remains avaialble, but the avaialbility
of data at 2016 off-season events is unknown at this time.

In order to avoid inadvertently intercepting or manipulating critical communications between the FMS
components (FMS and Audience Display, web server, etc), we advise against installing parallel programs
unless specifically provided, and tested, by FIRST.

If there's a specific use-case or additional questions you're interested in, you're more than welcome to
